7 Hobbies You Can Enjoy In Your Kitchen

The past few years was such a difficult time for everybody. Just like everyone, I was not able to do anything outside of the home until I was fully vaccinated. However, The good thing is that I’m pretty much a homebody.

My husband and I really like to spend time at home and enjoy the staycation. Therefore, staying home for a long time wasn’t too bad for us. Furthermore, as a Krazy kitchen lady, I truly enjoy a variety of activities that I can do in my kitchen.

These activities really helped me to overcome a long social distancing period. Even before when I was living normal daily life, these hobbies made me enjoy my life. Therefore, I would like to share the 11 hobbies that you can have in your kitchen.

Table of Contents

1. Cooking

Cooking is the most common hobby you can do in your kitchen. Instead of making the same type of food you always eat, why don’t you try making different food for fun? I personally love making pizza from scratch with my family.

Making pizza dough and adding our favorite toppings is really fun. The picture above is a garlic spinach chicken pizza we made one day; it was delicious. Of course, I love using my kitchen gadgets when I am cooking.

I enjoy using my bread maker to make pizza dough. I like making dough with my bare hands but sometimes I’m too lazy and just use the bread machine. If you are a beginner, getting some help from kitchen gadgets is not a bad idea.

Recently, I also try out recipe videos on Youtube or recipe blogs. I love watching online cooking classes because I can learn about unfamiliar food ingredients such as herbs, spices, and canned food.

As you know, there is numerous cooking information online. How about you trying a new menu every weekend? I have been learning a few different French foods and I really enjoy cooking different food!

2. Home Barista; Home Cafe

Do you like coffee? I simply cannot live without coffee. I make my own coffee every single day. Mostly, I drink a cup of iced americano and occasionally I make other recipes such as latte, cappuccino, or caramel macchiato.

You can make different types of lattes such as green tea latte and chai latte. It’s not too difficult to make delicious coffee. Just add your favorite milk, sweetener, and flavored syrup.

I also like to add a little bit of cinnamon powder. Learning latte can be a fun hobby as well. Making a heart shape of milk foam is pretty easy and you can do it after some practice.

Setting up a home coffee bar can be another fun hobby for you. Have you ever heard about the term “home cafe”? The home cafe is a popular genre of social network services such as Instagram and TikTok.

People post pictures and videos of making unique beverages & snacks at home and a lot of people follow them. Just like ASMR videos, those home cafe videos make people satisfied by stimulating their senses.

3. Home Bartending

Learning bartending can be a really cool hobby. When you throw a party or attend one, you can impress your friends and family. You don’t have to know numerous recipes. You can make fantastic cocktails with simple ingredients.

One of my favorite recipes is mixing a shot of vodka, low-calorie lemonade, and a couple of drops of grenadine. It’s very low in calories and tastes so good.

My friends and family absolutely love this recipe and I made many glasses for them in the past. My husband simply loves jin and tonic, so he usually buys a flavored bottle of jin with zero-calorie tonic water.

4. Baking

One of the biggest benefits of having a hobby is that it can be therapeutic. Baking is one of my favorite kitchen hobbies. When I feel emotional or stressed out, baking makes me feel so much better.

I love making all different types of treats and sharing them with friends and family. I recently sent my baking goods to my husband’s office and it makes me truly happy especially when I hear some compliments.

Baking can be difficult for beginners but you can easily have access to many sources online and offline. You can start buying a baking recipe book for beginners, attending a baking class at a local shopping mall, or simply watching a Youtube video.

I have never attended a baking class, however, I learned many things about baking from books and online sources. It takes time and it will be worth it. I still remember when I made a batch of peanut cookies for the first time.

They were horribly burnt and my husband made fun of me by saying they look like hockey pucks. After many attempts over many years, I can confidently say that I’m a good home baker.

5. Cake Decorating

I love decorating cakes for my friend’s and family’s special days. The cake in the picture above is the one I made for my friend’s birthday. It’s a chocolate cake and has strawberries between sheets with whipped cream. It’s not necessary to make the cake sheets from scratch.

You can simply use a store-bought plain cake or cake mix. I use cake mix all the time. Since we are not a professional bakery, decorating a cake takes longer than you expected. Therefore, making a cake with a store-bought cake mix is a smart move to save your time.

Have you ever tried canning? I love making food in jars and giving them to my friends and family. Canning is one of the easiest kitchen hobbies and the results are really beautiful. You don’t need fancy gift wrapping skills and just putting your food in a jar is so pretty.

I personally like making fruit jam and compote. I also like to make basil pesto, spinach pesto, and tomato pasta sauce. You don’t need extra fancy gadgets for canning. You simply need glass jars and basic cookwares such as a pot and a stove.

Blogging can be a really good hobby for you. I started this blog for the same reason. I love everything in the kitchen and truly enjoy talking about it with other people. I also like to talk about health and fitness.
